On April 28, the KMT and Taiwan People’s Party announced that they would jointly support Lee after a polling-based coordination process selected him over Taiwan People’s Party chairman Huang Kuo-chang. His principal opposing candidate was Su Chiao-hui of the Democratic Progressive Party. The joint endorsement concerned the parties’ choice of candidate, not the outcome of the mayoral election.
