      "text": "Heytea (Chinese: 喜茶, pinyin: Xichá) is a Chinese tea drink chain headquartered in Shenzhen. Its formal corporate name is Shenzhen Meixixi Catering Management Co., and it started in 2012 in Guangdong province. The chain is best known for cheese-foam tea and fruit-based drinks, and it is often grouped with the wanghong economy because of its appeal on social media."

      "heading": "Origins and naming",
      "text": "The first outlet was a small shop in a narrow lane in Jiangbianli, Jiangmen, Guangdong, opened in May 2012. At that point the business still used the name Royaltea. The company rebranded to avoid trademark conflicts, which made the trademark question a practical turning point for the business. Sources differ on the date of the change. Baidu Baike gives February 26, 2016, as the date the name was fully upgraded to the registered brand \"HEYTEA\", while other accounts describe the rename only as a 2016 event without giving a day.\n\nDevelopment of the product line began earlier. A beta version called Milk Salt Green Tea was reportedly introduced in December 2011. The company later credited its early growth to a cheese-topped tea that paired fresh tea with a whipped cheese foam and avoided artificial flavours and colourings. The company describes cheese tea as its original product, built on real ingredients rather than artificial flavours."

      "heading": "Products",
      "text": "The signature drink combines tea with a foam made from salt, cheese and milk. Its cheese tea uses a mixture of New Zealand Anchor cheese, milk, cream and salt. Fruit drinks became a second pillar of the menu. In July 2016 the company introduced \"Full Cup Red Pomelo\" and launched a full-cup fruit tea series. In February 2017 the \"Cheese Berry Berry\" drink debuted, starting a cheese series that was followed by mango and peach versions.\n\nPricing sets the brand apart from lower-cost competitors. Heytea could charge up to 30 yuan per cup, far above the average of about 10 yuan at Mixue. The higher prices reflect ingredient choices: it uses fresh juice and real tea leaves rather than powders or frozen products, which raises its costs.\n\nThe chain has also issued co-branded products. In 2020 Adidas released a sneaker made in collaboration with Heytea. The same year, Heytea partnered with Fenty Beauty on a cream blush product."

      "heading": "Expansion",
      "text": "Growth in mainland China came first. In 2015 the company expanded into the first-tier cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The chain now has locations across most first- and second-tier Chinese cities, as well as in Singapore. As of 2026, the chain operates more than 4,000 locations, primarily in China. Earlier company materials cite a smaller figure. One press release states that Heytea had more than 3,000 stores worldwide, but that release is undated, so the two figures cannot be reconciled precisely.\n\nInternational expansion began in Singapore. In 2018 Heytea opened its first international store in Singapore. Its overseas footprint now includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and South Korea, as well as Hong Kong and Macau. Overseas stores are concentrated in wealthier markets. Heytea has focused its overseas push on Europe and America, where purchasing power is high and tea-drinking habits are relatively mature. Its London store, opened as the chain's first outside Asia, was marked by long lines and had to close temporarily on its opening day. Heytea is also among the few new-style tea brands to build its own supply chain locally and work with local suppliers abroad."

      "heading": "Operations and digital channels",
      "text": "Digital ordering is central to the business model. About 80 percent of customers order online and collect their drinks in store, and only about 25 percent of orders are delivered. The brand's WeChat mini-program is a major channel: by 2021 it had more than 35 million members. A smaller sub-brand, Hey Tea Mini, operated 18 stores of its own and sold over a million drinks in 2020."

      "heading": "Ownership, financing and listing plans",
      "text": "Heytea's investors include IDG Capital, Sequoia Capital China and Hillhouse. Accounts of its value differ. One source reports that the company was most recently valued at $2.3 billion and had raised $95.1 million over six funding rounds. Another states that the company was valued at more than 60 billion yuan (US$9.3 billion) after its latest funding round. The later figure may reflect a different valuation basis, and the sources do not explain the gap.\n\nPublic listing has been discussed repeatedly. In September 2021, Bloomberg reported that Heytea had hired UBS and was considering a Hong Kong listing as soon as 2022. The company responded that it had no listing plan at present. Rumours had circulated since 2020, and in early 2021 the founder publicly rejected them on social media, saying the company had no plan to go public that year. A competitor, bubble tea chain Nayuki, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on June 30, 2021, which increased speculation about Heytea's own plans. A Heytea representative later said the company had no IPO plans at that time."

      "heading": "Reception and controversies",
      "text": "Heytea is widely credited with popularising premium tea in China, but observers have questioned whether its model can scale. The company may need to position itself more clearly in a crowded market as it considers its future path, including a potential listing. Its founders have described a dual strategy of keeping a premium image while also reaching a mass market. The founder has said he does not mind rapid growth provided the company can balance premium quality with broader reach."
